The new IEEE 802.15.4 standard (part of ZigBee) for low-rate wireless personal area networks (LR-WPAN) is a global standard addressing the needs of low-rate applications requiring devices of very low complexity, cost and possessing multi-month to multi-year battery life. ZigBee is aimed at building and industrial automation/control and several other applications involving wireless sensor networks. This talk will discuss the features and potential of this evolving standard.
