Conventional video encoding schemes like MPEG and H.26x are computationally intensive tasks and hence cannot be implemented in small, low-cost sensors. Low complexity video coding schemes that are based on distibuted source coding techinques will be introduced. A (very) brief introduction to distributed source coding will be presented, and it will be shown how these techniques can be applied to video coding. After demonstrating the sub-optimality of one of the existing "distributed" video coding schemes, an introduction to our research in this area will be presented.
