Title: Cross-Layer Modeling of Adaptive Wireless Links for QoS Support in Multimedia Networks Abstract Future wireless multimedia networks require diverse quality-of-service (QoS) support. To this end, it is essential to quantify QoS metrics of wireless links for system design and analysis. We developed a cross-layer model of adaptive wireless links with QoS support, where adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) scheme is adopted at the physical layer and queuing dynamics of finite-length buffer are considered at the data link layer. This QoS-oriented wireless link model accounts for typical wireless link parameters across the hardware-radio layer, the physical layer and the data link layer. Its applications to design and analysis of power control, TCP and UDP in wireless networks are illustrated by examples.
