Topic: Congestion Control over Wireless Sensor Networks Presenter: Shushan Wen Time: 5:00--6:00, Feb. 14, Monday,2005 Place: NEB 201 In this seminar, I am going to make a presentation on a survey of Sensor Networks and their congestion control schemes. The following three contents will be discussed in this topic: 1. What is a Sensor Network? Sensor Networks becomes a hotspot for wireless network research during recent years, but in most cases this term is only used frequently without a definition. In my speech, a definition of a sensor network will be given, and the topic will also include the introductions of research areas relative to Sensor Networks, the brief history of sensor networks, and the applications of Sensor Networks. 2. The Feature of Sensor Networks Sensor Networks have special features, which are determined by the applications and the implimentation cost. These features make sensor networks different from other wireless networks. I will introduce these features, and make a comparison between sensor networks and regular wireless networks. 3. Congestion Control schemes in Sensor Networks. We need congestion control in sensor networks. The part of speech will answer the questions of Why and How. A congestion control scheme, CODA, will be introduced, including the design considerations, performance measurement discussion, and simulation results.
