Can cell cycle period and sea clutter radio returns be modeled by the same distribution? --- A Journey through non-Gaussian statistics Jianbo Gao and Jing Hu Abs: Half of this talk is tutorial about non-Gaussian statistics, including topics on stable laws, Levy processes, Tsallis non-extensive entropy formalism, and Tsallis distribution. Another half of the talk is to apply Tsallis distribution to two distinctly different problems --- modeling of cell cycle period and sea clutter radar return data. We will present some excellent results. We shall also make some speculations as how these non-Gaussian statistics might be applied to many areas in electrical engineering, including wireless networks, sensor networks, non-Gaussian communications channels, etc.
